Salty Hippo Studio is an art studio with a small retail space. I’m the resident artist (quite literally, I live on the building’s top floor)—and I design and hand print patterns onto textiles.
Most recently from NYC, I moved to Chillicothe two years ago to be closer to family. Determined not to have to mow a lawn, I found this building on the town square and renovated it into a live/work/studio space.
Most days you’ll find me printing fabric, but every once and a while I can’t stop myself from piecing the patterns and colors together and trying my hand at quilting. It’s a new hobby for me and I’m finding I really enjoy it.
In addition to printing new designs onto Robert Kauffman cotton and upholstery yardage this year, I’m currently working on a couple of designs that are special-just-for-the-shop-hop—I can’t wait for September to get here and meet all of you.
Chillicothe has two shops participating in the hop (hi, Cuts and Bolts!) as well as some great restaurants (Shooter’s and Blackwater rank pretty high on my list).
And, we’re known for our building murals as well as being the home of sliced bread. So! Make sure to give yourself time to check out the town as you hop through.
